A selection of works by French Photographer Lucien Clergue and German Photographer Karin Székessy will be on display at the Galerie Beim Engel. Lucien Clergue, who died in 2014 at the age of 80, was one of the founders of the Rencontres d’Arles. Clergue’s work encloses landscapes, portraits (e.g. Picasso and Cocteau) and still-lifes. The exhibition focuses on the unusual topic of targets on which people are trained to be soldiers and prepared for war. They shed light on the changes in the respective “foe images”. Does the enemy have a face? Are they abstract?
In search of answers Herlinde Koelbl journeyed to military training grounds in the USA, China, Russia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Ethiopia, Norway, Mongolia and many other countries.
