Eine Interpretation der Bauhaus-Idee in 7 Schichten
An interpretation of the Bauhaus idea in 7 layers.
kuratiert von Gerry Badger aus der Sammlung von Johannes Faber
Working at his Institute of Critical Zoologists, the Singapore-based artist Robert Zhao Renhui creates his own universe and a guide to the flora and fauna of this world. It is usually impossible to tell what is reality and what is fake. Then again, our confusion hints at the fact that the typical consumer is just as clueless in everyday life. Is the apple in the supermarket genuine or genetically manipulated? In which ways does man influence nature to make it what we perceive as pleasant and a… more
The second edition of the exhibition ‘handmade’ shows works connecting photography with handicraft, crossing the boundaries of conventional, two dimensional photography. Using different methods, the exhibiting photographers share the same approach: to create work that is sensible, handmade and corporeal, contrasting the digital and untouchable form of photography. Like Sissi Farassat using Swarovski crystals on her photographs, Diane Meyer stitching on Berlin Wall photographs, Heat… more

REINER RIEDLER: SWEAT
For his latest project, Reiner Riedler works with a completely new “camera-less” technology. His negatives are made of cotton cloth that is treated with sensor dyes. The material is thus reactive: when in contact with sweat, a chromatic process is set in motion and the background changes color from pink to yellow. The fabric is placed either on top or underneath the sweaty bodies for a few minutes and there is only one attempt for each “ex… more

Statesʼ have Governments, Corporations are steered by a Board of Directors and even organizations of our civil society – Labour Unions for example – function in conjunction with a superordinate governing body or umbrella organization. What happens to lovers while they are sleeping? Are they just sleeping next to each other, each on their own, or are they sharing certain places or emotions? Is it a nocturnal lovers’ dance - which is not necessarily sensual, but rather a kind of unconscious act of tenderness - or are they turning their backs on each other? Is there a union with the other, with one’s self?
These are the questions that Paul Schneggenburger tries to address with images rather than answers. “The … more
Sieben Fotografinnen über sich selbst
The self-portrait is the biggest challenge that an artist can take on. The exhibition, "Me, Myself & I", presents seven contemporary positions on how a woman can approach the enterprise of the self-portrait as a photographic artist: starting on the conceptual rather than the documentary side, enacted and performed several times, with an epistemological view, or borrowing visual arrangements from well-known works by other photographers. The variety of digital image recording devices … more
People seem to be consequently drawn to the beach, the shore, the area between sea and civilization. On this narrow strip they re-arrange space - to provide access to the water, to see the horizon, to sit down, to relax, to spend some time. The photographic series „The Beach“ investigates the diversity of architecture and furnishing, the range of materials, signs, shapes, colours and objects, that has been therefore imagined. The pictures have been taken in 15 European countries over… more

With their tattoos, leather jackets, slicked-back hair, and beloved British motorbikes - BSAs, Triumphs, Nortons, and Royal Enfields - Rockers are the nemesis and antithesis of the fastidiously groomed Mods. Elvis, James Dean, and Marlon Brando made rocker style synonymous with rebellion, sparking a global cult. Friedrichs follows the British rocker tribe as its members congregate in parking lots, pubs, cafes, dance and pool halls, as well as huge gatherings at Jacks Hill and the Ace Cafe. Alter… more

The development toward a globalized world has progressed inexorably during the past 20 years - with borders blurring and countries and cultures converging. The photography book WEST looks for answers to this question, in the process revealing the multilayered facets of the phenomenon of globalization. Gathered together … more
