°CLAIR Gallery at ART PARIS art fair

Guest of honor for this year’s edition is China

On the occasion of ART FAIR Paris, that will be held from 27th to 30th March 2014 at Le Grand Palais in Paris, the °CLAIR Gallery proposes an exclusive exhibition devoted to China, bringing together photographers of various origins and generations that have a common point: their deep interest for the “Middle Kingdom”.

Several Magnum photographers will be exhibited. Chien-Chi Chang, who has always shown in his work a strong interest for the Chinese diaspora and for the special relationship that exists between those who left and those who stayed. The public will also have the opportunity to discover some prints of Inge Morath’s photographs taken during her trip to China in 1978, as well as some of Patrick Zachmann portraitist’s work which will also be exhibited. Please also note Mr Zachmann will sign his book W. ou l’oeil d’un long-nez at the stand B4 of the Gallery °CLAIR Sunday the 30th at 3pm.

Among the other °CLAIR Gallery works that can be seen at ART PARIS are a selection of vintage photographs from David “Chim” Seymour (1911–1956) and Philippe Halsmann. Photographs by Lee Miller, Petr Lovigin, Tomasz Lazar, and Gundula Friese will also be available for viewing. °CLAIR Gallery will also be presenting a phenomenal print of a photograph by Oliver Mark (1963, Germany) that is held by the National Portrait Gallery in London.

After a triumphant exhibition in Berlin, a series of rare, signed vintage prints by Erich Hartmann (1922-1999) will also be available for collectors.

The °CLAIR Gallery was founded in Munich, Germany in 2008 and is dedicated to classical and contemporary photography. The director of the °CLAIR Gallery, Anna-Patricia Kahn, offers a personal, worldwide curatorial service for collectors. °CLAIR opened a second gallery in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Cote d’Azur in 2011.

°CLAIR Gallery became a partner of the Halsman Archive earlier this year.

Philippe Halsman is one of the most renowned photographers of the 20th century and has created some remarkable iconic portraits in modern history. °CLAIR Gallery will be showing a collection of vintage prints including the portrait of the photographer Edward Steichen from Halsman´s Jumpology series displayed above.

The retrospective Philippe Halsman exhibition Astonish Me! is currently being shown at the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne. The exhibition will also appear at the Galerie national de Jeu du Paume in Paris in 2015.
