Copenhagen Photo Festival is here to stay and captures, once again, the city’s galleries, museums and streets with its large-scale program. Ten days in June photography is celebrated all over the city. If you are in Copenhagen on June 9th - 19th you can hardly miss the multiple events of Copenhagen Photo Festival when it brings Danish and international photography into focus. With photo exhibitions in metro trains, in major streets in the city, at the town hall square, in Carlsberg and in galleries and museums the festival spreads all over the city. Refuse to compromise on quality For the second year in a row the festival literally flows through the streets of Copenhagen and makes photography easily accessible to everyone. And there is a clear purpose behind it: ”We wish to create a festival at a high artistic level and with international aim and yet maintain a popular appeal,” says Rasmus Ranum, managing director and founder of the large-scale photo festival in Copenhagen, together with Julie Klitbo. ”Therefore the festival will be visible in the urban space so that people outside the narrow art world also open their eyes to the potential of photography” he elaborates and underlines: ”But we do not compromise on quality.” During the festival it is possible to experience pictures taken by the national and international photographic elite working within contemporary art, portrait- and documentary photography. At the same time the intention of the festival is to bring Danish photography’s strong position on the international photo scene into focus. A position in which Danish photographers, in recent years, have manifested themselves significantly. Photos at Carlsberg and in the metro Photography will take up even more urban space in Copenhagen compared to last year: All of the city’s metro trains will be rolling, underground exhibitions showing selected Danish and international festival contributors. The crowded street Nørrebrogade is transformed into a huge gallery when shops along the street are participating by offering their window spaces for the exhibition ”2200 Hverdagsritualer” which aims to show Nørrebro from the inside. Another main street will transform into a Photo Walk and thousands of square meters in the old brewing area of Carlsberg are the base of a huge Photo City with exhibitions, events and artist talks. Copenhagen Photo Festival 2011 is a non-profit organization and is supported by Københavns Kommune, Region Hovedstaden, Politiken and Canon.
